A Review of the Rab Khroma Tour Infinium Gloves

The Rab Khroma Tour Infinium Glove Review

Rab may be known for their down-filled outerwear and sleeping bags but they should also be known for their fantastic ski gloves. If you’ve read my Khroma Tour Gore-Tex Glove review you know I am a fan and for good reason. Durable, tactile and warm. Given the opportunity to try something a little more breathable and uphill oriented, I jumped at the chance to test the Rab Khroma Tour Infinium gloves.

What is the Khroma Tour Gore-Tex Infinium Glove

Rab’s Khroma Tour Gore-Tex Infinium glove is a midweight touring glove built for the uphill and the downhill. Lightly insulated with a Goat leather Palm and Gore-Tex Infinium shell make this a very capable touring glove for late winter and early spring. Wax it and it’ll work for just about any day of the winter if your hot handed.

Pittards Goat Leather Palm

Pittards Leather for the Win

Unlike other models, the Rab Khroma Tour Infinium glove is only partially made with Pittards leather. This time, only the palm and thumb are made with Pittards. Since these are the high wear areas of a ski glove, I am more than happy to be able to get another pair of gloves made with Pittards as the company became insolvent in September of 2023. Stock up on these gloves when you can. This is top of the line leather. If you are going to wear these gloves on the downhill or while doing a bunch of snow science you’ll want to wax them as there is no waterproof liner.

Gore-Tex Infinium

The shell of the Khroma Tour Infinium is made with Gore-Tex Infinium windstopper. It’s right there in the name. Infinium is fantastic at stopping wind and repelling light moisture while still allowing for decent breathability and avoiding super sweaty hands. It will be more than capable at keeping your hands dry in a continental snowpack but isn’t built for a storm day in the PNW.

Gore-Tex Infinium

Insulation

The Rab Khroma Tour Infinium gloves are lined with a thin fleece. It’s a little too thin to be a main staple mid winter glove yet a little too thick to be a full on spring glove. Touring in temps just below freezing is the sweet spot for these gloves.

Wrist Closure

On the back of each hand is a hook and loop fasteners to tighten the wrist enclosure of the Rab Khroma Tour Infinium gloves. The tab opens the glove really wide making fitting your hand inside easy but there is no pull on tab or loop like on the Khroma Tour Gore-Tex version. This is unfortunate as that loop is fantastic and missed on the Khroma Tour Infinium glove

The Rab Khroma Tour Infinium Glove on Snow

MASSIVE opening of the Rab Khroma Infinium Glove

The Rab Khroma Tour Infinium glove continues Rabs commitment to making fantastic ski gloves. The Tour Infinium uses tough yet supple leather, is weather proof, and is very dextrous. Pulling them on is easy thanks to the massive wrist opening and I really appreciate the short cuff when tucking the glove inside my sleeve. I wish they had the same pull loop as their Gore-Tex brethren.

I found the Tour Infinium glove to excel at midwinter tours. Not too hot for the uphill and could handle most downhills thanks to waxing them with Snoseal. As long as I was mindful with how hot my hands were getting and I did not sweat out the gloves I could easily use them on the up and down of the early season tours I wore these gloves on.

Strangely, the fingers on the Tour Infinium glove are longer in a size medium than the fingers are on the large size Khroma Tour Gore-Tex glove. I’m not sure why this is but buyer beware, the sizing is a little unusual. I wish I had ordered a small in the Khroma Infinium glove. When the leather stretches I am sure it would fit perfectly, now they are a bit loose.

I suspect I will have these gloves for a few seasons, and if i do not continue to use them, its because I will have passed them on to a friend as an heirloom glove.

Gore-Tex vs Infinium

Though they are both fantastic gloves, the Khroma Gore-Tex and Khroma Infinium serve two very different purposes. The Gore-TEx version is an undercuff all weather freeride glove. It is full featured with a pull tab, nose wipe, Armortan leather and Primaloft insulation. It is a top of the line freeride specialist for midwinter.

The Khroma Infinium glove has heavy duty leather protection in a lighter simpler package. The Infinium, shell isn’t as durable as the Gore but is plenty strong enough for multiple seasons and light precipitation. It is warm with it’s fleece lining, maybe a little too warm for a full day of upping, but enough that it will keep hands warm on most coastal ski tours. It is unfortuantely missing the great pull loop of the Gore-Tex. The nose wipe of the Gore-Tex glove is missing, too. This isn’t a problem in my books.

Both gloves have a very large product tag on the inside of the cuff. Get rid of it asap or it’s the only thing you’ll feel on your palms all day.

Who are the Rab Khroma Tour Infinium gloves for?

The Rab Khroma Tour GTX glove is for the warm handed splitboarder and ski tourer looking for a durable weather proof glove that breathes better than it’s equivalent Gore-Tex version and can be worn on the up and the down for several seasons.
